UUM ONLINE: In line with its aspiration to become a smart digital campus, UUM has taken the initiative to develop a mobile application, the first of its kind, in conjunction with the 47th. Public University Golf Tournament which will take place on 7 and 8 September.
UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said the mobile application would be a convenience to all participants throughout the tournament.
According to him, the mobile app developed by UUMIT will contain information on live golf scores, course layouts, tournament schedules and official results that can be downloaded for free on Google Play and the Apple Store a week before the tournament.
In conjunction with the prestigious golf tournament, he said a website about the tournament was also developed and can be accessed at www.golfua.uum.edu.my
“With this facility, all participants will be able to gain access to information related to the golf tournament faster and easier.
"I hope that the organisation of the Public University Golf Tournament at UUM will be a memorable one and become a reference for the organisation of upcoming event," he said at the launching ceremony of the 47th. Public University Golf Tournament held at the EDC Hotels & Resorts recently.
The Public University Golf Tournament, an annual sports event organized by public universities in the country began in 1973.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the tournament was aimed at strengthening comradeship among the staff of the various public universities while providing various collaborative opportunities in terms of management, teaching and learning and research.
He said the tournament also provided industry networking opportunities through the involvement of private companies. The tournament can also boost self-esteem amongst fellow participants.
“At the same time, the organization of the golf tournament is also aimed at introducing UUM’s newly completed 18-hole golf course.
"This unique golf course is ready to challenge the capabilities and skills of the contestants who will compete in this tournament," he said.
His Royal Highness Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Ibni Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin, the Raja Muda of Kedah Darul Aman graciously officiated the launching ceremony of the golf tournament. Later, His Royal Highness together with the attendees viewed the montage which marked the launch of the mobile application and website specially developed in conjunction with the golf tournament.
At the same event, the Tuanku Raja Muda of Kedah Darul Aman, who is also UUM Pro-Chancellor, also witnessed the presentation of a mock sponsorship cheque and exchange of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Universiti Utara Malaysia Golf and Recreation Club (KGRUUM) represented by Prof. Ir. Dr. Che Sobry Abdullah with Naza Solution Sdn. Bhd. that was represented by its Director of Business Development, Mr Nor Hisyam Mohd Johor.
A total of 320 golfers from various public universities across the country including 24 players from UUM will compete in the golf tournaments which will be held at three different locations namely UUM Golf and Recreation Club, Darulaman Golf & Country Club in Jitra and Cinta Sayang Golf & Country Club in Sungai Petani.
