FreeWifiDiscoverUUM 

 

UUM ONLINE: The local communities which surround Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) including of those in Changlun and Sintok are able to enjoy free wireless Internet services known as UUMWiFi, which is provided by UUM as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project.

 

The UUMWiFi initiative aims to provide the facility at selected public areas as an effort to encourage local daily online activities as well as to support the teaching and learning activities in schools nearby UUM. The locations are CMART Business Complex and Taman Teja in Changlun, Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru in Sintok.

 

The free wireless internet service UUMWiFi launching ceremony was officiated by Minister of Higher Education, YB Dato' Seri Idris Jusoh, recently.

 

He also extended his congratulations to UUM and UUMIT for the free wireless internet initiative which provides broader benefits to the local population.

 

Apart from that, Dato' Seri Idris Jusoh also had the opportunity to interact with the representatives of local residents who receive the UUMWiFi services through a live video conference.

 

UUM appears as the first Public University (UA) to carry out the CSR WiFi to the local communities. UUM in its initiative offers WiFi services on the 5Gbps to the selected locations.

 

The UUM bandwidth capacity was increased from 560Mbps to 4Gbps in February 2015. UUM took the initiative to increase the bandwidth capacity to 5Gbps in February 2016. Meanwhile, UUM residents also enjoy the 100% internet access including at the academic and administrative buildings as well as at the students residential halls (DPP).

 

The UUMWiFi services was upgraded in March 2015 at 15 DPP that accommodates 13,000 students of which 2,180 wireless access point (AP) have been installed throughout the Sintok and Kuala Lumpur campuses.
